Delivery Point Code Calculation Revision
We have reverted our algorithm for calculating delivery point codes and no longer using the Cycle O TotalDPS logic by default. This was done after clarification from the USPS that the TotalDPS logic was not necessary for most users and that we should maintain the previous logic for the sake of compatibility and continuity. Instead, we have made the TotalDPS available as a separate output if it is ever needed. Please reference the Address Object documentation for additional details.

Connecticut County FIPS
The Census has adopted nine planning reasons for the state of Connecticut in replacement of the original eight counties. While this has already taken effect and returned in Melissa products using Census data, the USPS has recently implemented this change. Starting with this update, the County FIPS and name will reflect the nine newer county equivalents.

- Removed the AE14 result code from PMB addresses when the input included a "#" symbol.
Fixed
-
Enhancements have been made to the object to address the issue of identifying different variations of Suite Information.
-

New Released Web Service
Releases Web Service allows users to securely and efficiently download data files, object binaries, and other collateral files from Melissa.
This service enables users to automate the process of updating their data by allowing them to script the download of specific files rather than downloading the entire zip file.
Additionally, file versioning is provided, making it easier to download historical data if necessary.
For example, users are able to download the data files specific for Address Object plus the correct Windows object library and any wrappers required, without needing to download the entire zip archive.
To ensure the security and integrity of the data being downloaded, Releases Web Service requires the user's subscription license.
Documentation can be found here
-
New Melissa Updater CLI Application
Melissa also offers an open-source command-line interface (CLI) for Windows and Linux. The CLI simplifies the update process by providing a simple interface to consume the Releases web service.
Instead of scheduling a custom process, you can schedule simplified console commands.
Documentation can be found here
-
New DQSuite-Downloader Script
New DQSuite-Downloader Script has been made to download the Data Quality Suite files that you need without downloading the entire zip file.
Downloader scripts can be found here

Address Object and the 118th Congressional District Information
- Congressional District numbers and the addresses they are assigned to are maintain and distributed by the USPS. This data for the 118th congress was first made available in the January 2023 release of Address Object. Since then, we have noticed some additional updates and corrections from the USPS in relation to congressional district numbers that they provide. We expect that the February and March updates will contain changes and fixes to the congressional district data. The USPS has not made any announcements about this, however we will continue to monitor and provide updates as we get them.

Changed
-
Functionality Changes
- Address Object can now recognize this address input format (123 Main Ave Ste 1-2) where the Ste 1 address is a CMRA and the 2 is the private mailbox number.
- We now return MAK numbers for Canadian Addresses
-
MAK (Melissa Address Key) is a new output available only from Melissa data. The MAK is a time persistent key that identifies an address with a unique number. This number will stay attached to that address and will not change even if parts of that address change. This is what sets the MAK apart from our current AddressKey output. With AddressKey, if an address changes zip code, their AddressKey would change. Under MAK, it will not. So, MAK is a good way to permanently identify and locate addresses. With this new system, there are two new outputs available.
-
MAK
- The Melissa Address Key number for this address
-
BASEMAK
- This will give you the unique MAK number for the building, if the MAK address is a suite or apartment address.

-
Funtionality changes
- New ResultCode AS11 – PBSA Address – A Post Office Box address with a street style address instead of the normal PO Box # address format.
- Improved reporting back the correct result code for Canadian addresses with missing suites or incorrect suite.
- We have had to revert some of the recent changes that increased the number of addresses identified as a business or a residence due to a small percentages of these changes being incorrect. - MAK (Melissa Address Key) is a new output available only from Melissa data. The MAK is a time persistent key that identifies an address with a unique number. This number will stay attached to that address and will not change even if parts of that address change. This is what sets the MAK apart from our current AddressKey output. With AddressKey, if an address changes zip code, zip+4, or gets a new delivery point, their AddressKey would change. Under MAK, it will not. So, MAK is a good way to permanently identify and locate addresses. With this new system, there are two new outputs available.
- MAK – The Melissa Address Key number for this address
- BASEMAK – This will give you the unique MAK number for the building, if the MAK address is a suite or apartment address.
- SetUseUSPSPreferredCityNames() have been modified to return the USPS preferred city name.
- Improved casing with parse fields.
- Address object now has the ability to identify Post Office Box Street Addresses(PBSA)

However, this also means a significantly increased file size as well as some speed loss due to this new bigger data file.

Address Object Version 1730
Added
- Address Check Interface
- New Result Codes: A number of new Result codes are now available. Please reference the Address Object manual for these new Results codes and details for each.
Changed
-
Data file changes
- The LACSLink and SuiteLink datafiles for Address Object have been merged into one file each (mdLACS.dat and mdSteLink.dat). To leverage the enhanced performance and stability this affords, the Address Object library will need to be updated, when installing these new data files. If you cannot update to the Address Object Library right away, you may install the older data files from the other "deprecated" disc that shipped along with this one. You will continue to receive a "deprecated" disc until December 31st, 2010.
-
Address Check Interface
- Fix country code handling: Address Object will now label an address as foreign is it has a legitimate country code that is not "US" or "CA".
- Change in SOA form: The old Canada Post SOA (Statement of Accuracy) form has been changed. Canada Post no longer allows 3rd party tool providers to be SERP certified, so Address Object cannot produce official SOA forms anymore. Calling GetSOAForm() or SaveSOAForm() will now return a general Summary of Addresses form.
- FindSuggestion changes: Implemented a time limit of FinSuggestion() and FindSuggestionNext(). Will also only return suggestion for AE02, AE03, and AE05 errors.
- Congressional file updated: 110th.dbf has been updated to Congress.dbf and contains the 112th congress information.
-
Street Data Interface
- Canadian StreetData searches now fully supported: FindStreet searches for Canada are now fully supported. Search for PO Box, CP, or RR will now return Canadian data.
Deprecated
- Melissa Data is currently planning to deprecate Address Object's MSA and PMSA return properties. This standard is 10 years old and has been replaced by the newer Core Based Statistical Areas for the 2010 Census. Because CBSA's require more precise location information than provided in the Address Object they are only returned in the Geocoder Object. If you still require MSA and PMSA information, please contact your sales representative.
Removed
-
As of January 1st, 2011 the older Canadian format Canada.db file will been officially deprecated and will no longer be produced. This requires an update to the Address Object to builds greater than 1609. This enables customers to maintain SERP certified coding and leverage the new Canadian address verification engine.
-
As of January 17th, 2011, the Address Object Canadian add-on will no longer be able to generate a SOA (Statement of Accuracy) form due to Canada Post licensing restrictions. We are working with Canada Post to resolve this issue.

Connecticut County FIPS - June 05, 2024
The Census has adopted nine planning reasons for the state of Connecticut in replacement of the original eight counties. While this has already taken effect and returned in Melissa products using Census data, the USPS has recently implemented this change. Starting with this update, the County FIPS and name will reflect the nine newer county equivalents.
New DQT layout - July 03, 2023
We have changed our disc structure to simplify and modernize our API product. With the latest changes in the USPS CASS Cycle O update, we have updated and remapped all of the latest properties and methods in the wrappers as well as streamlined our sample code. Our sample code and interfaces (wrapper) files have been moved to GitHub. Based on the current landscape of programming languages, we are supporting CSharp (.NET), C++, Java, and Python3.

New Releases Web Service
Releases Web Service allows users to securely and efficiently download data files, object binaries, and other collateral files from Melissa.
This service enables users to automate the process of updating their data by allowing them to script the download of specific files rather than downloading the entire zip file.
Additionally, file versioning is provided, making it easier to download historical data if necessary.
For example, users are able to download the data files specific for Address Object plus the correct Windows object library and any wrappers required, without needing to download the entire zip archive.
To ensure the security and integrity of the data being downloaded, Releases Web Service requires the user's subscription license.
Documentation can be found here
New Melissa Updater CLI Application
Melissa also offers an open-source command-line interface (CLI) for Windows and Linux. The CLI simplifies the update process by providing a simple interface to consume the Releases web service.
Instead of scheduling a custom process, you can schedule simplified console commands.
Documentation can be found here
New DQSuite-Downloader Script
New DQSuite-Downloader Script has been made to download the Data Quality Suite files that you need without downloading the entire zip file.
